Resolute

HUGE NEWS.

Today, the Los Angeles City Council passed a resolution calling for an impeachment investigation of Donald Trump.

The resolution asks Congress “to investigate whether Trump violated the Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause or committed any other high crimes and misdemeanors that could lead to impeachment,” according to the L.A. Times.

This is a completely grassroots effort. Congress is refusing to lead, and so the people must. Resolutions have also passed in three other California towns; in Charlotte, Vermont; in Leverett and Cambridge, MA; and are pending in Brookline, Boston, and my hometown of Newton.

Is this movement in a bunch of blue towns right now? Yes. But this is a bipartisan issue. Defending the Constitution is as far from partisan as you can get. This movement will spread, faster and faster, and will before long hit a tipping point–and maybe, someday, we’ll be back in a reality that doesn’t require a willing suspension of disbelief.

Starting a resolution effort in your town is possible. Winning is possible–we saw it today. Here’s a guide on how to do it and here’s www.impeachdonaldtrumpnow.org, with more resources, FAQs, etc.

And please, if you haven’t already, sign the petition. It’s very close to a MILLION signatures–let’s get over the top. Let’s get two million.. Let’s get, oh, 2.9 million.

And by the way, here, again, is the running list of Trump’s conflicts of interest–39 pages and counting.

Someday soon, we’ll talk about what the heck an emolument is.
